Dales View

The little stroll to the cave from Harry’s vehicle took them across green fields, the views of Swaledale rolled out before them so achingly beautiful that Harry would have quite happily just stood there staring at it all for a while.

Lane to Shooting Lodge

Soon after, on a bend in the road, he took a right and headed along the rough lane which would eventually lead them to the lodge.

Shooting Lodge Behind Trees

To Adam, staying at the lodge was a bit like travelling back in time, but for Charlie, it was just annoying and old-fashioned. But they were there for the week and he was just going to have to put up with it.

The Fountain Hotel, Hawes

The three of them were now having an after-work pint in the public bar at the Fountain Hotel in Hawes. It had been Matt’s idea and Harry had been happy to agree to it.

Penhill, Wensleydale

As the moors rolled towards them, Jenny glanced over at Penhill up on their right, its dark, sombre silhouette ancient and silent and yet somehow carrying a weight to it which told of thousands of years of history quietly, carefully observed.

View from the top of Penhill

Harry was with the rest of the team up on Penhill. Even Detective Superintendent Swift was there, though he didn’t look all that happy about the walk they’d just done to get to the top of the fell and he was still heaving great gobfuls of cool air into his lungs.
